harvard microbiology in action

msi graduate consortium

description

The Microbial Sciences Graduate Consortium at Harvard fosters a community of students who, through their participation in Microbial Sciences Initiative (MSI) activities and coursework, become well versed in the many and diverse disciplines that are advancing our understanding of microbial systems.

Students interested in pursuing graduate studies in any aspect of microbiology should apply for admission in the graduate program at Harvard that best suits their interests. Information describing the doctoral programs available at Harvard can be found on the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and the Harvard Integrated Life Sciences (HILS) websites.  Students interested in applying to any of Harvard’s graduate programs are also very much encouraged to contact us directly at any time for more information about the consortium.

Once admitted to any of the Harvard doctoral programs, students interested in the consortium can take part in all of the MSI activities: Friday breakfasts, the monthly seminar and the annual symposium.  As early as in the first semester of graduate school within their respective graduate program, interested students can apply for membership in the Microbial Sciences Graduate Consortium.   Consortium members take "full-immersion" microbial sciences sessions offered during Harvard's January session.  The interdisciplinary course 'A Microbial World', taught spring semester, is the cornerstone of consortium studies and all member students are expected to take it some time during their graduate career.  In addition, many elective courses covering various aspects of microbial sciences are offered across the University.
